No. Microsoft says that for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Chat used with a work or school (Entra ID) account, your prompts, responses and organisational data are not used to train the underlying AI models.

What protections apply?

  • Enterprise data protection: when users sign in with their work account, Copilot Chat and Microsoft 365 Copilot are covered by Microsoft’s enterprise data protection terms, the same commitments that apply to Exchange and SharePoint.
  • Permissions respected: Copilot only uses data the user is already allowed to access.
  • Data stays in your tenant: content is processed within the Microsoft 365 service boundary.

What about personal accounts?

The consumer version of Copilot, used with a personal Microsoft account, has different terms. Staff should always use their work account for work tasks. Make this clear in your AI usage policy.
