The UK’s analogue phone network switches off on 31 January 2027
Openreach has confirmed there will be no extension. Phone lines and anything that still relies on them, such as alarm lines, card terminals and lift phones, need to move to digital services before then.

SoGEA, full fibre or a leased line?
The right choice depends on what’s available at your address, how many people rely on the connection and how much downtime you can tolerate.
SoGEA broadband
Fibre to the street cabinet, then copper to your building. No phone line needed.
- Download
- Up to around 80Mbps, depending on distance from the cabinet
- Upload
- Up to around 20Mbps
- Connection
- Shared
- Repairs
- Standard broadband repair times
- Install
- Usually the quickest to install
Best for: small offices with light cloud use, or as a backup line.
Full fibre (FTTP)
Fibre all the way into your building.
- Download
- Up to 1Gbps, where available
- Upload
- Usually lower than download
- Connection
- Shared
- Repairs
- Standard or enhanced repair options, depending on the package
- Install
- Depends on availability; some sites need a survey
Best for: most small and medium offices using Microsoft 365, Teams and cloud apps.
Leased line
A dedicated fibre circuit for your business only.
- Speed
- Chosen to suit your needs, confirmed in your quote
- Upload
- Same as download (symmetrical)
- Connection
- Dedicated, not shared
- Repairs
- SLA-backed fix times, set out in your contract
- Install
- Longest lead time, as a survey and sometimes groundwork are needed
Best for: larger teams, heavy uploads, hosted phones and sites that can’t afford to be offline.
Speeds, repair times and lead times vary by address and supplier. We confirm them in writing in your availability check and quote.
One number to call, no finger-pointing
Your IT, telecoms and connectivity sit with one team. When something stops working, we get on with fixing it rather than debating whose problem it is.
How we help
We handle your connectivity from start to finish
Because we’re also your managed IT provider, you don’t have to chase a carrier, a router supplier and an IT company separately. We deal with the problem.
Installation and migration
We manage the whole order, install or move of your line, and coordinate with the carrier so you don’t have to.
Spare routers in stock
We keep spare routers, so a failed device can be swapped quickly instead of waiting for a replacement.
4G and 5G backup
A mobile backup connection keeps you working if your main line goes down.
Troubleshooting and line tests
We run line tests and investigate technical issues, then take the fault up with the carrier on your behalf.
Voice and data prioritised
When phones and data share a line, we prioritise call quality and separate voice from data traffic.
Wi-Fi heat maps
Using your site plan, we show how Wi-Fi coverage would look before we set foot on site.
Network setup
Routers, firewalls, switches and Wi-Fi configured and documented as part of your managed IT.
Ongoing fault ownership
If something goes wrong, we own the fault until it’s fixed and keep you updated along the way.
Leased line advice
We help you decide whether a leased line is worth it, choose the right bandwidth and plan backup, then manage the survey and installation.
Multi-site connectivity
Linking offices, shops or clinics so your team can share systems securely, with one provider looking after every site.
Starlink satellite
For rural and hard-to-reach locations, a Starlink satellite dish can carry your data and your business phone handsets. Many of our clients in these areas already rely on it.
Wi-Fi vs your internet line
Fast broadband, but slow Wi-Fi?
Your internet circuit and your Wi-Fi are two different services. A fast line won’t help if the wireless network inside your building is poorly planned.
- The circuit is the line into your building: SoGEA, full fibre or a leased line.
- The Wi-Fi is the network inside: access points, placement and interference.
- We check both, and use heat maps to plan better coverage.
How it works
From availability check to a working line
We start with the facts about your building, then recommend the service that fits.
We look up your address
We check your address and any existing phone numbers to see exactly which services are available.
We match the best service
Often that’s full fibre (FTTP), which is far faster and more reliable than older broadband. For some sites it’s a leased line or SoGEA.
We manage the install
We handle the order, migration and carrier. If you’re waiting for a leased line, a 4G connection can get you started.
We look after it
Routers, Wi-Fi, backup and faults stay with us, as part of your IT support.

- Lead times and a clear quoteHow long installation is likely to take and what it will cost, in writing.
We reply to new enquiries within one working day, Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm.
“We contacted ABCOM at 9:00am, and by 10:30am an engineer had already arrived and fitted a replacement switch panel. Thanks to their quick response, we were back up and running with minimal disruption.”
Phones on the same line
Add business phones, and we’ll look after those too
We provide Horizon hosted phones, Microsoft Teams calling and Cisco Webex calling. Webex can include AI call transcription through a third-party tool, sending notes from your calls straight into many popular CRMs.
FAQs
Business broadband questions
How do I know which connection is right for my business?
We look up your address and any existing phone numbers, check what’s available, and recommend a service based on how many people you have, how you use the cloud and how much downtime you can tolerate. Full fibre (FTTP) suits most small and medium offices; leased lines suit business-critical sites.
How long does installation take?
SoGEA is usually the quickest to install. Full fibre depends on availability at your address and sometimes needs a survey. Leased lines take longest, because a survey and sometimes groundwork are needed. We confirm the expected lead time in your quote, and a 4G connection can get you started while you wait for a leased line.
What happens if our internet goes down?
Call us. We run line tests, troubleshoot the issue and raise the fault with the carrier for you, then keep you updated until it’s fixed. We keep spare routers in stock, and a 4G or 5G backup connection can keep you working in the meantime.
Is full fibre upload speed the same as download?
Usually not. Full fibre packages normally have a lower upload speed than download. Leased lines are symmetrical, so upload and download speeds are the same, which helps with large uploads, backups and video calls.
Why is our Wi-Fi slow when our broadband is fast?
Your internet line and your Wi-Fi are separate services. Slow Wi-Fi is often caused by access point placement, interference or too many devices. We use heat maps based on your site plan to show where coverage is weak and what will work better.
Can you prioritise phone calls over other internet traffic?
Yes. When voice and data share a connection, we configure your network to prioritise call quality and keep voice traffic separate from general data.
Can you help if we’re in a rural area with poor broadband?
Yes. We check every option at your address first. Where fixed-line broadband is slow or unavailable, 4G or 5G and Starlink satellite services can carry your data and your business phone handsets. Many of our clients in hard-to-reach areas use a satellite dish successfully.
Does the PSTN switch-off affect us?
The UK’s old analogue phone network (PSTN) is being retired on 31 January 2027, and Openreach has confirmed there will be no extension. Phone lines, alarm lines, card terminals and lift phones that still use it need to move to digital services. Leased lines aren’t affected. We can review what you have and plan the move.
Do you only provide connectivity, or IT support too?
Both. We’re a managed IT provider, so your broadband, phones, network and IT support can all sit with one team. That means one number to call and no finger-pointing between suppliers.
Not sure what your building can get?
We’ll check your address and tell you plainly what’s available, what we’d recommend and what it will cost.
