What is Multi Factor Authentication?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA/2FA) is essentially a means of verifying that a user is authorised to access a given account or service. It does this by requiring evidence that helps prove their identity. This may come in the form of a text message or call to a Smartphone, an email, a prompt in a mobile app, or even a physical device like a thumb drive or key fob. While not infallible, it provides another layer of protection in the event that other security measures are compromised, such as a bad actor gaining access to a password, and should be used across your organisation as part of your Digital Security strategy.
